Chris Livingston talked about the 1952 Bakersfield earthquake, which measured 7.3 on the moment magnitude scale, and produced one of the largest aftershocks ever recorded in California. Video and images of Bakersfield taken immediately after the event were shown, and a local resident who was 12 years old when it happened talked about the experience.

C-SPAN's Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their "2013 LCV Cities Tour" in Bakersfield, California, from June 3-7, 2013 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Bright House Networks local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed.

Museum Curator Lori Wear toured three of the homes in Kern County's Pioneer Village, a collection of over 50 buildings representing the history of Kern County through the 19th century. She talked about the families who lived in them, and explained how their stories represent the growth of Bakersfield throughout the late 1800s.

Jeff Nickell toured one of Bakersfield's oil fields, and talked about the discovery of oil there in 1899 and how the industry has grown since then. Kern County generates 76 percent of all the oil produced in California and is the largest oil producing county in the United States.

Jeremy Adams and Ken Hooper talked about former Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren and the collection of archived materials related to his time as a student at what is now Bakersfield High School. The teacher also spoke about the landmark cases that faced the Warren Court and how his decisions impacted the country.
